I have started doing SEO since late 2008. Then I had a blog in which posts were mostly theoretical plan. The first time I experimented a lot, interested in different methods of promotion, and gradually formed in my own conception of progress. Now that my responsibility is some good projects, when constantly faced with different challenges in terms of promotion and maintenance of the site, then you begin to understand some trivial things. This applies to errors of optimization. Most of them I did myself, and many were avoided. Below, I propose you get to know the list of common mistakes that many webmasters make when optimizing sites for Yandex and Google. Try not to step on other people's rake.
1. Early start of SEO company
Of course, if we talk about ordinary blogging, then the approach is simple: create a blog and gradually start fill it with useful information. Only during its development, run certain SEO activities. In any case, most do so.
But there are others who begin to spend , already under development. I think it is a wrong approach. In order to understand why the approach is wrong, first we need to decide why do you need to attract people to your site? The answer is simple: for commercial sites attracting visitors to the site is their conversion. That is, the desire to encourage visitor to take some action, for example, to buy goods. For the purpose of blogs is somewhat different - to interest the visitor and make it a regular reader. However, we can say that this is only a kind of conversion.
If the project is not completed and is ongoing promotion of the blog, the result will be a very large percentage of failures and, hence, low credibility of the site by users, which would be very difficult to change for the better. So the main rule – at first you should optimize, and then promote.
2. SEO ignoring
When I’ve created my first online journal, I had no idea about SEO and about the optimization of content in particular. All posts were written without "grinding" under the key words. As a result, enlightenment came only when a blog has been written already about 100 posts. Clearly, to optimize such a large amount of content takes a long time + a lot of time it takes to re-index.
Based on the foregoing, it is necessary to determine in advance the purposes for which created site. If for personal, if you don’t plan to monetize it, in short, if the site for yourself, in this case SEO can be ignored. But if a site is created for people and your purpose - to attract interested visitors to the site, then ignore SEO is not necessary.
3. In your work - focus on robots, not on people
Site should have a high level of usability. It should be easy for search engines and users. How to identify weaknesses in usability? Go to any SEO forum, where there are relevant sections and ask them to evaluate your site. So you kill two birds with one stone: make your website well-known and receive recommendations to improve usability.
As for the errors. Keep an eye on a comfortable navigation, so there was no broken links and non-existent pages. Check the layout. The site should not crawl to other browsers. From my own experience I can say that you can’t pay attantion on Internet Explorer 6. This is an antediluvian browser, layout for that – is a big headache that is not worth it.
4. Ignorance of the rules of search engines
One of the problems faced by newcomers promoting their sites is a lack of knowledge in the field of SEO. Believe me, to rank your site well in search engines you should know the rules of search engines. To do this, I recommend reading a guide for webmasters in Google and advices to webmaster from Yandex.
5. Creating pages like "Site friends"
As for me, I think that these pages - this is the last century. They are ineffective in terms of traffic and in terms of SEO too. If you have friends who have sites with similar topics to yours, you can simply refer to some article on their website, or exchange links in blogrolle (lateral column in blog). As practice shows, with good attendance at blogrolle link gives a good return in terms of attracting traffic. In any case, such a scheme works much better than a single page "Friends of Site"
6. Excessive "pumping" by keywords
Hate to see when trying to optimize text people are fed with either getting keywords. You do not need the illusion that the more keywords on the page, so it is better optimized and more quickly reach the top of keywords. I'll tell you a practical example. Promoting a midrange request, I was very surprised when I saw this same midrange was placed in the top 3 Yandex and Google in one trust blog. On the very page keyword was only in the page header + the article was started with the keyword.
And all the more a keyword was not found in the text. Thus on this page was placed cross-link (draft) + bought about 20 links with an appropriate anchor from sites with zero. And in a day this keyword gives the order of 50 visitors, mostly from Google. I can answer why everything is so simple: The reason – is a huge trust that this blog has in the eyes of search engines.
Of course, for zero sites, this method does not give the same result, but the bottom line, I think, is clear. In my experience, it’s enough only one exact occurrence of keywords in the text + a few declinable. Later, with the right promotion, this page will come out in the top and without silly pumping keyword.
7. Ignoring the analysis and statistics
In large companies, SEO-companies, there are separate departments that deal with monitoring client sites. I say this to the fact that the easiest way to go the right way - to see how the professionals do it. And they have almost all the work based on the analysis. Identify weaknesses and work in this direction. At about you should act too. First of all, you need to put the counter statistics. In runet popular counters are Liveinternet and Google Analytics. The latter is a great opportunity for analysis. LI service is easier.
And then to use those data which can be collected with these services. That is, you have to work so as to know the weaknesses of the site. It is through the analysis you'll learn why your positions are "dipped”, or, for example, choose the best options for the location of ad units per page, basing on an analysis of visitor behavior.
Simply put, you see what you can improve and work in this direction to give greater effect. Conclusion: do not ignore the statistics. For example, in the same Liveinternet, if you have no experience, you can be confusing at first. Because of the apparent complexity of many newcomers decide it's better to be a passive observer. That is, simply ignore the statistics. And, by the way, if you want you can get the answer to any question. Their support service responds very quickly. Anyway, I was answered within 10 minutes. Therefore, do not see any problems everybody who wants, he will learn.
8. Stopping promotion in a halfway
I specifically made this point last to highlight and summarize all that was said above. So, if you do everything as it should, then there is another problem to be overcome. And I have to say that this is the biggest problem - laziness, tiredness, unwillingness to continue, insecurity, a creative crisis. Therefore, the formula for success is simple - do the right thing and do it all the time.
That regularity is one of the keys to success. SEO - is not a set of actions according to the type 'did and forgot. “This is a long and laborious work, the result of which is not visible at once, but gradually. And if you're used to live by the principle "all at once", then here it will not work.
Of course, in this article, I have not any optimization errors which allowed webmasters, but only those that have recently "made callous” eyes. This is particularly obvious, as many go halfway. Sorry, there are also sensible people who have been unable to fully realize their creative potential…
