Well hello.
I hear a lot of uneducated statements and myths online that have to do with local SEM providers like Yodle, ReachLocal, WebVisable and others. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding out there and it’s time to really dig into some of these myths to find out if there are really any truth to them. Shall we begin?
Myth #1: YODLE WILL AFFECT YOUR SEO RANKINGS – FALSE
This myth has been busted! There is a lot of chatter going on around the internet with claims that Yodle will affect your businesses natural or organic search engine rankings. This myth is false and here’s why:
This myth got started because of Yodel “mirroring” websites. Now, the advertisers has the choice to have Yodle create a compelling website that delivers a higher conversion rate as well as has some SEO injected in – or they can go with just plain ol’ SEM. If an advertisers decides to stick with SEM Yodle includes a Robots.txt file along with a Meta No, Index No, Follow tag that doesn’t allow for the duplicated / mirrored website to get indexed or create a duplicate content problem. If the advertiser decides they want a little SEO and graphic love, Yodle will create a completely unique website with all unique content. Yodle will not harm / hurt your SEO – your safe.
Myth #2: REACHLOCAL WILL AFFECT YOUR SEO RANKINGS – FALSE
This is yet another big ol’ NEGATIVE.’ ReachLocal uses a Proxy to clone your website but does do something similar to Yodle. Instead of having chucksplumbingco.com as the cloned or ‘mirrored’ website, ReachLocal will proxy the site on a sub-domain that looks something like chucksplumbing.reachlocal.net. Now – ReachLocal also includes a Meta No, Index and No, Follow tag therefore eliminating t he changes of duplicate content as well.
Myth #3: SEM IF NOT MANAGED CORRECTLY CAN HURT YOUR SEO RANKINGS - FALSE
SEM / Search Engine Marketing will not have any affect negative affect on a small businesses SEO. Some skeptics however do believe it can help. Some think that a larger sum of relevant traffic will help your rankings but other then that if you do not manipulate tracking code on your companies URLs you will be fine.
Myth #4: ITS CHEAPER TO MANAGE YOUR OWN PPC CAMPAIGN – FALSE
Ok, in some cases it is cheaper to manage your own PPC campaign but in other instances its not. Let’s take a Google Reseller for an example; yes they charge a management fee and sometimes it can be a decent % of your budget but keep in mind, some resellers don’t mark-up the PPC cost therefore leaving you at an even draw on price – you even get more bells and whistles.
Myth #5: SEM PROVIDERS CANT TRACK WHICH KEYWORDS GENERATE WHICH CALLS THEREFORE THEY CANT GIVE YOU A TRUE R.O.I LIKE THEY SAY
I kind of chuckled when I saw someone claiming a SEM / PPC company was lying about how they track which keywords generate which calls. This my friends is yet again FALSE. Sure, most SEM providers can’t track which keywords drive what calls because they don’t have the technology to but some do. Survival of the fittest right?
Now that these myths have been set to rest, make sure you check out our detailed reports and review at the coming soon.
