Aghem I smell a moron or two… or three…
No offense Spokoe.com – but your service isn’t anything new. So why is Denver’s 9 News making such a big deal out of it and ?
Spokeo.com’s business model is simple… They pull hoards of information about you and I through popular social media websites along with public records to deliver in most cases a not-so-accurate profile in which they can sell for a basic membership fee.
So first, how do you remove your information from Spokeo.com?
It’s easy – you can request to have your information removed here: .
They will ask you a few simple questions like the URL to where your personal information appears and your email address.
Now in 9 News recent article they have consumers who state they’ve requested their personal information be removed from Spokeo.com and it hasn’t along with various complains of Spokeo.com not returning emails… I’m sorry to say this but some of you are… not smart?
Dr. Stephen Haag a professor from Deniels College of Business at the University of Denver suggests “My recommendation to people is to simply ignore it and don’t try to get their information removed.”
Bad advice – and he’s a professor?
Spokeo.com doesn’t use the information you submit to have your private information removed as a tactic to get more info on you – believe it or not, they actually remove it – and it’s instant. Wow.
Now to those interviewed in the 9 News Article, how about tacking a few basic classes on working a computer prior to bashing a legitimate white pages business? Just because you don’t have the ideology to type in your email correct or learn to check your spam email doesn’t give you the right to bash a legitimate business.
Why would Jeffery Wolf and Dave Delozier publish a story hey haven’t done their home work on?
Oh and last thing… If you don’t want your personal information showing up all over God’s creation… Don’t publish it everywhere (Twitter, Facebook. MySpace.com etc…), instead do what I do and put fake info in. That way websites like Spokeo publish funny things like me living in a 5 million dollar house and bringing in a 32K/annual salary. Haha..
