The most basic thing to do – is to have a profile on LinkedIn (if you don't have) and start adding all your friends and acquaintances. The most important thing you should remember is the fact that access to the LinkedIn profiles of other people you get only achieving the third-level (point 3). All other users will be «out of your network».
Once you've added all the acquaintanceand not so, look for someone else to add to its terms. Quite often an invitation “take” HR-s and recruiters, because they are interested in wide network of contacts. Look for representatives of popper profession in existing network and send invitations. In this way you “kill two birds with one stone” – expand range of communications and increase your chances to get a job offer.
Another way: look for interest groups (for you, as well as potential customers) and Networking group of a general nature. And go on – follow them!
Added – wait for confirmation (if the group is closed). Have received confirmation – continue to move to the tab “Members” and is here looking for anyone who might be useful for you. Add to friends. Don't assume that everything will be so fast. Don't be lazy to spend a couple of weeks to add new people to your network.

This option is suitable, for example, if you have a blog and you need to attract readers, or you need to promote the event, courses, trainings and other goodies. When you create a group, pay attention to the presence of key words (subject, location) in title and brief description. Then your group has a chance more often appear in search results.
Important! Groups are open and private. If you want the maximum number of people, it is better to use “open group”. Anyone may join it. Another thing is a private group. You can always control the process, who is here granted and why.
Formed a band, filled it with some amount of content - invite your contacts to it. The more participants – the higher your group is displayed in search results.
Indeed it will be good if, like on Facebook, users will use the button “Like”. So try not to spam and provide your “friends” with useful and quality information.
