Many times Google will assess penalties to websites for various reasons like Spam, Black Hat SEO tactics etc, sometimes ever worse than penalties is a complete removal of your website through its index.
Let’s say you clean things up and submit a re-inclusion request – how long does it take for your website to reappear in Google’s index?
The answer is this: too long! Let’s use me as an example… I purchased a domain name that had obvious penalties assessed – I didn’t realize this until I transferred the domain name from the seller and replaced the website with a quality content website that should have been picked up fairly quickly.
This didn’t happen and Google for the longest time refused to index the home /index page -why? Prior to acquiring the domain it was used as a FFA (free for all) website that had all kinds of various ads from many different ad publishers on the domain. Sounds like an easy fix right? It was – the domain transfer was performed on September 5, 2009.. The new website was launched September 6, 2009. The first reinclusion request was filed on September 10, 2009. Google decided to finally index the home page on September 25, 2009 and have yet to-date re-include it in its main index.
Was the domain a bad acquisition? Nope, but re-inclusion request do take a really long time. If it wasn’t for a good domain name I probably would have ditched the efforts and started from scratch.
A Quote form Matt Cutts:
For less severe stuff like hidden text, it may only take 2-3 weeks, depending on when someone looks at the request and if the request is approved.
Haha – not! 2 Weeks? I wish… Those Spam Busters in the GooglePlex must be pretty dag-ol’ bogged down
