First, I love GoDaddy and I think Bob Parsons is a hoot. They have reliable web hosting, good deals on domain registrations but one thing they lack in is getting out the right information and not making things up to make a sale, so here is the deal…
I was on a GoDaddy support call several weeks ago and the GoDaddy rep told me that Google likes domain names with longer registration lengths because it shows its not a “fly by night website,” which really isn’t true.
Little did the GoDaddy rep know he was talking to someone who lives and breathes SEO, someone who stays up with the latest gossip and myths about SEO and quite frankly this rightful upsell attempt was not warranted by truth.
On September 21st I wrote about the Domain Name Registration Length & SEO Myth which you can read here.
I am guessing the rep didn’t know any better and I don’t condemn him for it – its just simple not true, at least yet. I haven’t heard about domain name registration lengths having a positive affect on SEO.
