That’s not something you hear every day, is it? But it’s true: A survey of companies by corporate advisor McKinsey & Co. determined that email is a much more effective way to acquire customers than posting to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn combined – almost 40 times more effective, to be exact.
Here’s their consensus: “If you’re wondering why marketers seem intent on e-mailing you more and more,”McKinsey states, “there’s a simple explanation: It works.”
They are in good company, because other authorities also believe that email marketing is making a big comeback. Hospitality Net, which devises marketing strategies for the hotel industry, concluded the same thing in an article titled, “Email vs. Social Media–Which One Deserves Your Marketing Dollar?” The writer stated, “While there is a lot of hype around social media when it comes to usage, email wins hands down.”
This makes sense, if you think about it; when was the last time you booked a hotel or resort stay based on a tweet? Most people are far more likely to book based on an email offer from a travel resource, or a “daily deal” subscription service like Groupon. The good news is, email marketing doesn’t just work for the hospitality industry; it can work for any business, in any industry.
Here are the keys to a successful email marketing campaign:
Focus on the journey.
Even if someone doesn’t click your first email, they may click your next one. Keep creating great headlines that entice them to open the message; eventually, they will.
Create a great landing page.
A customized landing page that the reader can click through from the email can increase your conversion rate by more than 25%.
Don’t forget mobile.
Nearly 45% of marketing emails today are read on a mobile device; don’t discount this important demographic.
