Stereotypes – it's a tribute to the community, where the same without them. Of course, some of them are “based on true stories”, but there are some that are far beyond reality. You must have encountered any stereotypes regarding freelancers. We attempted to identify and dispel the most popular myths about freelance workers.
Freelancers – are singles
Some believe that the majority of the time freelancers spend at the computer, so that's why they have no friends. In fact, they also find time to talk, because they need it much more than office workers.
Freelancers don't sleep enough
Partly, this is true, because most freelancers prefer to work at night. But don't forget that everyone is different and each has individual schedule. Of course, there are times when freelancers just overworked but this doesn't happen every day.
Freelancers rarely take a shower
You can laugh or angry but do many people think. People believe that freelancers spend all the time at work and follow personal hygiene is not in their plans.
Freelancers work for food
Many freelancers earn quite well, it all depends on their professionalism and need. You can earn enough or even more than what you expect if you are a perfect specialist.
Freelancers have health problems
Because freelancers are malnourished, don't get enough sleep, don't do exercises and spend little time outdoors. Freelancers – hard-working people but that doesn't mean they do not care about their health. Some freelancers are good in their business and at the same time look after their health.
Freelancers are not “suitable” to work in the office
Some believe that freelancers are those people who do not take the job in a company. Many freelancers – experienced and qualified professionals they just prefer to work for themselves and to plan time themselves. They even have more experience than most of people who have a stable work.
Freelancers are nervous
It is believed that freelancers are to protect themselves from stress as possible to choose projects, clients, working hours, etc. In fact, most freelancers have nerves of steel because they often have to redo all the time and listen to all the customers' “fantasy” for design.
Freelance – easy to work
It is not true that freelancers work a few hours a day and do nothing. Many believe that website design can be created by pressing a few buttons in Photoshop. Freelancers often work far more than ordinary people (many of them 12-15 hours per day).
Freelancers drink tons of coffee
This is perhaps the most plausible stereotype. Indeed, to confess, many freelancers suffer a coffee addiction, particularly if prefer to work at night. But there are those who do not drink coffee and green tea, for example.
Freelancers are sad people
Try to ask freelancers what they think about their work. Most likely, they will tell you they are happy because make a living love. They do not need to constantly listen to chief's orders. And yet, they can decide themselves when to work, have fun and travel.
Freelancers are focused on money
Of course, money is needed by all and freelancers are always worried about payment because they are not insured by the fact of being cheated. They are engaged in design, for example, and in their free time. Do you know at least an accountant who'd checked against a table on weekends, just because he likes it?
